Charles Greenwell, Music Director

Charles Greenwell was born into a musical family in New York and has had a long and varied career in the performing arts as a conductor, singer, pianist, oboist, composer, actor and stage director.

Maestro Greenwell has degrees from Michigan State University and the Royal College of Music in London, and has performed extensively throughout the United States, Canada and Europe.

As a conductor he has directed the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Tulsa Philharmonic, the Anchorage Symphony Orchestra, the Windsor Symphony Orchestra, and the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra, among others, and served as a producer for the recordings of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra for Chandos Records of England.

The SGLS's music director is now in his tenth year as Pops Conductor of the Birmingham-Bloomfield Symphony Orchestra, and continues in this capacity as regular cover conductor for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.

Greenwell was also involved in the broadcasting field for 40 years, and served as a program host and music director for WQRS until the classical radio station's demise in 1997.
